What Escapes Me is a five-piece, progressive metal band from Kolkata, India that are known for incorporating native Indian instruments in their music, giving prog an even newer sound.

Egress Point, consists of ten mind-blowing tracks and was independantally released April 27th, 2016. This was a complete DIY effort from the band as it was produced and mixed by their guitarist Sayan Ghosh, and it was mastered by legendary, Australian sound engineer and producer Forrester Savell. This album features some amazing Indian classical musicians like Ustad Alla Rakha Kalavant on the Sarangi and Prateek Shrivastava on the Sarod which makes this band truly stand out.

What I like about this album is that for being a completely DIY project, it sounds fantastic. A lot of hard work and heart went into this and that doesn’t go unnoticed. A few songs that stand out the most are “Section 66 Part 5” as it contains the Sarod (Sa-Rode) instrument. I never really thought that an instrument so “foreign” to the metal industry, could sound so beautiful when paired up with this type of sound. Its not too much, and its not too little, its just the perfect amount of difference to make a statement. Other songs like “Maze of Mutual Apocalypse” and “Empty Signs” really round out the albums progressive and heavy sound.

Pick up this album now on their bandcamp or facebook page below. For fans of Intronaut, Meshuggah, Tesseract, this album will not disappoint.
